Its remarkable that time and time again my daughter when on holiday and in a new environment will easily connect and make friends with other children. Whether it be a child of similar stature or a coy smile, skin colour doesn’t seem to be of any distinction.
The first attraction seems to be that there is another child that looks like me…….
I have sat back and watched on numerous occasions how this interaction takes place with my 5 year old. Generally it will start with a smile, maybe a usher in to join in with a game and then the beginning of having fun begins. These small beings really do put us adults to shame. The non judgemental attitude is so beautiful and if we flip it around we could actually learn some big lessons from them !
No judgement, no notice of skin colour just simple similarity.
We live in a world unfortunately where we judge each other within seconds…they look funny, don’t like their clothes, odd face, overweight, too skinny, don’t look like me, don’t look approachable…the list goes on!!!!
Why don’t we learn something from children for a change and not judge each other, but have a conversation and get to know each other without noticing skin colour or any prejudicial thinking.
Stereotyping is such a poor way to set an example to our up and coming children of today. Not everyone will fall into the expected category we put them in, in our heads…and why should they ? The simple interaction I observe from my beautiful daughter is something that gently reminds me to just be kind, compassionate and give everyone a chance…no judgement just kindness.
Sometimes we need to stop and watch, observe and see the beauty.
What can you learn from your children ?
