Living in denial !

Why are we so scared to talk about mental health ?
Over the years I have heard so many references that quite simply play down the fact that someone has a mental illness. I am not saying you have to run around telling everyone about it but don’t live in denial about it either.
It has taken me such a long time to understand myself more and to start being a bit more open and transparent about my anxiety and struggles. It doesn’t define me but its a part of me and that ok…it makes me up like a piece of the puzzle, and I unashamedly take a more positive stance and will speak more boldly about it now.

Is it a cultural thing ? Are we ashamed, do you not believe there is such a thing as having a mental illness ? …..hmmmm please consider those points !

My frustration of late has been when a discussion arises that talk will often skip around the facts rather than addressing them head on….Just say what it is…MENTAL ILLNESS !!!
I have heard comments that would suggest because of ones strong fierce attitude that you can almost climb on out of depression or liken to such.

I am sorry…not sorry, but we need to educate ourselves. And that’s ok if we don’t know, but our own experience and someone else experience of mental illness can be worlds apart !

I am just asking that we are a little more understanding, more forgiving and less judgemental. Lets stop marginalising and putting people in the same boat..we are all swimming but some of us go through seasons of waves that seem to be against us and pushing us in the opposite direction.
We keep fighting and climbing when no one notices…maybe you can help someone that feels they are swimming against the tide too….just look around you. There is a sea of people who need you, need me to be their for them. Family, friends, spouses, children, work colleagues, neighbours the list is endless.
Be more thoughtful, more considerate and think who are you going to lift up and inspire today.
It may just be a smile, a nod of understanding,to whisper a prayer of peace or simply a hug.
Be true, be real….keep it real, we all deserve the very best in life xx

Peace and love xx
